Grounded
Let's talk about what it means to be grounded. We are spiritual beings in corporal bodies and sometimes, for a multitude of reasons, we allow our spirit to not be fully in our body. Those reasons can be either positive or negative. For example, we don't want to deal with a particularly painful issue in our lives--our minds just start chattering and our thoughts seem out of control, or even overwhelming--or from a more positive side, we just want to escape the heaviness of being in our bodies. But ultimately, we have been designed and are most effective in our mission when we are fully in our body.
I've been taught and believe "the deeper you ground, the higher you fly". So, grounding is the term we use to describe bringing our spirits fully back into our body.
Grounding is very simple. Call your spirit back into your body by concentrating on your body. Maybe one of the most common methods is to bring your focus to your breath. Focusing on the in and out of breathing, the natural rhythm of being alive, can bring you back and bring peace and calmness. Concentrating on your breath just 5 or 10 minutes a day can ground you and bring a stillness that is so often overlooked.
One method I've found is beginning with my toes and quietly feeling the sensation of energy from my toes, up my feet, and slowly working through my whole body until it reaches the tip of my head. Physically grounding to the earth is also helpful. I personally try to put my bare feet in the grass at least two or three times a week. I also lay in the grass and do what are called slow angels. Much like the snow angels one would create as a child, lay on your back and slowly, very slowly, move your arms and legs from center out as far as they can extend. Hold that position for a little bit and then come slowly back in. These are great exercises for stretching as well. It has also been proven that people who can get up and down off the ground with the minimum number of touch points live longer. I think it helps you live better.
You can also stand with your feet planted on the ground and imagine roots growing from your feet and reach deep into the core of the Earth, creating a stable base just like a tree.
Grounding on a regular basis will keep you out of your head and help keep your spirit centered so you can face life with stability and fly higher.
